POLYCARBONATE (PC)

Polycarbonate (PC) is one of the amorphous thermoplastics. The amorphous (disordered) arrangement of the molecule chains results in the
transparency of the material, which is pertinent to an optical application.

Polycarbonate impresses with its transparency and break resistance. Due to the lower density compared to glass, a corresponding material substitution can be made and the weight of the component can be reduced. In addition to the visual appearance of the material, polycarbonate has further advantages in terms of its mechanical properties compared to other plastics. It has high mechanical strength as well as high temperature and heat resistance.

PC properties

The following list of properties is general and serves as a rough guide.

Advantages of polycarbonate (PC) at a glance:

  • High transparency and therefore very translucent
  • Extremely high impact strength, almost unbreakable
  • Self-extinguishing properties in case of fire
  • High weather resistance
  • Suitable for contact with food
