Transparency and translucency
The most important characteristics of our profiles
A glass-like appearance is achieved by using the engineering plastics polycarbonate (including Makrolon® and Lexan®) and polymethyl methacrylate (including PLEXIGLAS® and Altuglas®). This guarantees consistently high quality for our products and delivers outstanding properties:
Polycarbonate (PC)
- colourless transparent, opal, diffuse/satin, special LED light diffusing properties (dispersive) and
individually matched colours - high impact strength (almost unbreakable)
- extremely weatherproof 1)
- high heat resistance (up to approx. 130°C)
- good resistance to embrittlement (up to approx. -35°C)
- flame retardant categories UL94 “HB” to “V0”
(depending on material type)
1)ATHEX always works with UV-stabilised PC
Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)
- colourless transparent, opal, diffuse/satin, special LED light diffusing properties (dispersive) and
individually matched colours - unrivalled resistance to weathering and ageing
(no yellowing under UV) - adequate impact resistance2)
- resistant to heat deformation from 85°C to 100°C
(depending on material type) - flame protection category UL94 “HB”
(burns with extremely little smoke and pollution)
2)By using special material types, the impact strength can be increased for specific requirements (e.g. vandalism)
