A good look and high light transmission are the most important features of our products. We achieve optics similar to glass by using acrylic glass (a.o. Plexiglas®, Altuglas®) and polycarbonate
(a.o. Makrolon®, Lexan®).
Polycarbonate (PC)
- high impact resistance (nearly unbreakable)
- good light transmission
- reasonably weatherproof*)
- high heat deflection temperature (up to ca. 130 °C)
- good embrittlement resistance (down to ca. -35 °C)
- Flammability rating UL94 "HB" to "V0" (depending on material type)
- available in transparent, opal, diffused/satin and individual colours
*) ATHEX only processes UV-stabilised PC
Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA)
- unrivalled weather- and aging-resistance (no yellowness-effect from UV-radiation)
- very high light transmission
- reasonably impact resistant*)
- Heat deflection temperature from 85 °C to 100 °C (depending on material type)
- Flammability rating UL 94 "HB" (burns with very low smoke- and pollutant-level)
- available in transparent, opal, diffused/satin and individual colours
*) By application of specific materials types impact resistance for certain requirements can be improved (i.e. protection against vandalism).
